Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Mann Bomberger

Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Mann Bomberger, 95, of Brethren Village, in Lancaster, PA, died peacefully on March, 1, 2018 at Brethren Village. Betty was born on June 24, 1922, the daughter of the late William A. and Margaret Welch Mann of Columbia, PA. She was the wife of Rev. Harold Zug Bomberger of Lebanon County, PA, who preceded her in death. Surviving her are her two sons, Timothy Warren (Deborah) of Lewisberry, PA; Harold Lane (Anita) of McPherson, KS, and daughter, Venona (Joe) of Loganville, PA; two sisters, Meena Eichelberger of E. Petersburg, PA and Thelma Kreiser (Ralph) of Mt. Joy; plus nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Columbia High School she received her B.S. degree from Elizabethtown College, PA and continued to work towards a Master’s degree at Wichita State University and McPherson College in Kansas.

In June of 1944 she married Harold Bomberger whom she met at Elizabethtown College. As a minister’s family, Betty and Harold and children lived and served churches in Vidora, Saskatchewan, Canada, Allentown, PA, Westminster, MD, Harrisburg, PA, McPherson, KS and Pine Grove, PA, and assisted her husband in seven part-time interim pastorates within the Church of the Brethren.

A dedicated, exemplary, well-respected elementary public school teacher, Betty taught 9 years in McPherson, KS, and 12 years for the Central Dauphin School District. Following her retirement in 1989, Betty served as a substitute teacher for 10 years. Throughout her career, Betty was a member of NEA, serving as President of her local
